We want to thank everyone for making our first year at LM Medical amazing. We are here to make 2017 your best skin year yet.  Here are a few of our tips to help you focus on skin rejuvenation in the new year!

  1. Don’t forget the moisturizer! This time of year can be rough on the skin. We recommend using a moisturizer daily after showering (remember to keep hot showers short)! It is important, especially in NYC, to also make sure that your hands are being protected with healing ointments. Our winter skin is more prone to cracks and openings which can increase risk of infection. Keep your skin healthy by moisturizing daily and keeping your natural skin barrier strong. Consider investing in a humidifier if your apartment feels dry.
  2. Acne can be worse in the winter. Make an appointment with your dermatologist if it seems like you are having more trouble with acne than you did in the summer. The sun naturally functions to kill bacteria in our hair follicles so when it goes into hibernation breakouts can worsen. In the meantime, make sure that you are cleaning your skin twice a day with a gentle cleanser and changing your pillowcases frequently (think twice a week).
  3. Develop a daily sunscreen routine! Now is the time to start if you haven’t already. The single most impactful thing you can do for your skin today is to start wearing sunscreen. We love the tinted broad spectrum sunscreen by Elta MD but there are many great products available to suit your needs (the “clear” version is great for patients with acne). Remember you are still being exposed to the sun if you are working next to a window or walking to work in the winter. As an added bonus, wearing sunscreen on your hands too will help you to minimize wrinkles and age spots in the future.
