Submental and jawline liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that enhances and sculpts the submental (under the chin) and jawline/neck areas by removing unwanted fatty tissue thereby defining and slimming the area. Neck liposuction may be combined with jaw line filler and nonsurgical tightening for an optimized result.

What is submental liposuction surgery?
Submental and jawline liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that enhances and sculpts the submental (under the chin) and jawline/neck areas by removing unwanted fatty tissue thereby defining and slimming the area.
Why do patients choose submental liposuction?
Patients either are genetically predisposed with a pocket of submental fat or have difficulty getting rid of unwanted fatty deposits in spite of exercise and a healthy diet.
Where is surgery performed? How long is surgery?
The procedure is performed in-office under local anesthesia, sometimes in conjunction with Ultherapy and takes approximately 30 minutes.
Who are ideal candidates?
The ideal candidate is a healthy adult who desires improved definition under his/her chin, jaw line, and neck.
How do patients prepare for surgery?
We have a detailed protocol of pre-operative and post-operative instructions that outline out the entire process. We tailor each procedure to the specific patient in order to optimize each patient experience to reduce the down time while maximizing the results.
What does the surgery entail exactly?
A small, 2 millimeter incision is made under the chin in a natural skin crease and a thin suction cannula is inserted to gently suction out the fatty tissue. Submental liposuction is often combined with a neck lift and/or Ultherapy to tighten and contour the skin for a more defined jaw line.
What is the downtown after surgery?
The downtime is typically very short, and many patients opt to only stay out of work for a few days. Typical expectations include a range of mild bruising and soreness. Strenuous exercise and swimming must be avoided for 10-14 days but most other activities can be resumed after about 5-7 days.
What are potential risk/effects from surgery?
The most common side effects include swelling and bruising which are typically mild and always temporary. Sensations changes, which are temporary, also occur but resolve with resolving swelling. There is minimal to no discomfort associated with this procedure.
Will submental liposuction leave scars?
There is a very small incision, approximately 2 millimeters, made under the chin. We have all our patients place scar gel around the area after surgery, which promotes faster healing.
Will the fat ever come back?
Fatty tissue that is removed during the procedure is physically removed and therefore, will not come back. Remaining fat cells in the body may still expand if a patient gains weight.
When can I start exercising again?
We recommend waiting 10 days before resuming your normal exercise regime, except for swimming which we recommend waiting three weeks before resuming. This time optimizes the healing process.
