On the day of your chemical peel treatment in New York City, Dr. Rabach and her team will receive you at the practice and get you settled in the treatment room. They will review the plan in case of any outstanding questions or concerns. Once you are comfortable proceeding, a topical analgesic or local anesthesia will be administered in the case of a deep peel.

Once you are numb, the process for each type of chemical peel is roughly the same. Immediately before the treatment, the skin is thoroughly cleaned. The acid solution is then applied to the skin with a small brush, gauze, or cotton-tipped applicator. How long the solution is left on the skin depends on the type of chemical and procedure. Light treatments are applied for several minutes, medium peels for around forty minutes, and deep peels for an hour to an hour and a half, with a break in between sessions. Water or alcohol is typically used to neutralize the acid before wiping it off.

A chemical peel treatment takes under an hour to complete.
