What to Expect on the Day of Atypical Mole Treatment

Your treatment may be on the same day as your consultation at our New York City office, especially if the atypical mole is dangerous. The procedure is quick and relatively painless, as Dr. Rabach uses a numbing agent or injection.

Then, she will use a scalpel to completely remove the mole and a small amount of surrounding tissue. If Mohs micrographic surgery is being performed, she will instead remove one layer of skin at a time to preserve the surrounding healthy skin. Finally, Dr. Rabach will close the wound with stitches, and you can head home.

If you get laser treatment, you’ll be given protective eyewear before Dr. Rabach uses the laser to target the mole. It will feel like a warm, prickly sensation, but should not be painful.

You might feel some mild soreness or tenderness after the anesthesia wears off.

Atypical Mole Treatment Recovery

After your appointment in Downtown New York City, you will notice that the treated area is slightly swollen and red, and will be sensitive to the touch. Keep your skin covered and moist, using the protective ointment provided by Dr. Rabach.
