Droopy Eyelid Repair

Introduction

Introduction to Droopy Eyelid Repair

The eyes are one of the face’s most expressive and beautiful features. While neurotoxins can temporarily help with crow’s feet and address other concerns, droopy eyes or ptosis can give the eyes a tired, sleepy, or aged look. You may feel like you look less awake or seem older than you are. The good news is that droopy eyelids can be repaired with a surgery that comes with minimal downtime and discomfort, but it is important you seek out an experienced and skilled surgeon who understands both functional and aesthetic aspects of the eye. At LM Medical NYC, Dr. Lesley Rabach offers ptosis repair surgery at our state-of-the-art facilities in the Upper East Side and Greenwich Village to help correct tired eyelids, back a more youthful, vibrant appearance to your face!

What is Droopy Eyelid Repair?

Ptosis is a condition that affects the function of the upper eyelid. The upper eyelid may not open completely with ptosis, causing a droopy, sleepy appearance. In some cases, ptosis can impact vision, reducing the scope of eyesight. Ptosis can affect people of any age, even children, but it is more common as a side effect of aging.

Ptosis repair surgery, also known as droopy eyelid surgery, restores the upper eyelid’s proper function and improves the eye’s appearance by removing a small amount of excess skin and fat and tightening the tissue. The surgery resembles an upper blepharoplasty or eyelid lift, but it is often more complex as it is intended to restore the eyelid’s function rather than simply its cosmetic appearance.

What’s the first step?

As a first step, you will schedule a consultation with facial plastic surgeon Dr. Lesley Rabach at LM Medical NYC. Dr. Lesley will evaluate your facial condition, the extent of your ptosis, and your medical history and answer any questions you may have. She may also run several diagnostic tests to determine the strength of your surrounding muscle tissue. If your condition has progressed beyond cosmetic repair and warrants surgery, Dr. Lesley will recommend certain surgical techniques to address your particular droopy eyelid condition and return functionality to the area. Once you and Dr. Lesley settle on the best surgical plan for you, our patient coordinator will be able to help you schedule your surgery.

What to Expect on the Day of Droopy Eyelid Repair Surgery

Patients are advised to follow Dr. Lesley Rabach’s precise preoperative instructions. On the day of surgery, Dr. Lesley Rabach will meet with you to review the surgical plan for your droopy eyelid repair surgery and answer any outstanding questions.

Dr. Lesley will proceed with the corrective surgery outlined in your surgical treatment plan. To effectively address your ptosis condition, she may pursue one of several surgical techniques, such as repositioning or shortening the levator muscle. During these surgeries, you may be asked to perform eye movements to help determine the positioning of your eyelid.

Droopy eyelid repair surgery is outpatient, meaning patients can return home the same day. During recovery, you will be given eye drops to help properly lubricate the eye and protect it from irritants and infection.

Droopy Eyelid Repair Recovery

Most patients will require rest and limited activity for at least one week after undergoing surgery. Please continue to lubricate your eyes with the provided eye drops or ointment to prevent dryness or infection. Dr. Lesley also advises patients to avoid rubbing their eyes or potentially irritating the area for at least one to two weeks following their procedure.

During recovery, your eyes may experience some swelling, bruising, and/or mild irritation. Please follow all of Dr. Lesley Rabach’s post-operative instructions and apply the provided ointments and medication to reduce discomfort and achieve the best results.
