Aging also impacts the function of the eyelids. Conditions, like entropion or ectropion, can cause the lower eyelid to turn in or out. One of the most common causes of eyelid damage is skin cancer. Mohs surgery may be required to remove eyelid skin and tissue that contains cancer cells, leaving the eyelid disfigured.
