Midface Lift Surgery
Many changes occur to the face during the aging process. The skin loses laxity, fat dissipates and soft tissue sags. In the midface, this can impact the connection between the eyes and cheeks. Larger bags or circles can form under eyes, and the cheeks can sag and deeper nasolabial lines form. A solution is midface lift surgery to reshape and elevate the upper cheeks. At LM Medical NYC, we offer various facial lift surgeries to combat aging at our state-of-the-art facilities in Manhattan.
When the face is younger, the skin and tissue under the eyes smoothly transition into the upper cheek. With aging, this area can shift and change. As the skin loses elasticity and gravity takes hold the buccal fat pads, muscles and tissue in the upper cheeks, can sag. This enhances the nasolabial fold around the nose and flattens the youthful contours of the cheeks. At the same time, the lower eyelid can sink, tear troughs can deepen and eye bags can form. This can create two separate sections in the midface, eye bags and drooping, flat cheeks. The result is a face and eyes that look tired and older.
What Is a Midface Lift?
While a traditional facelift removes excess skin and elevates tissue in the upper neck and lower face, a midface lift addresses sagging cheeks. A midface lift surgery elevates the cheek fat and tissue back to a more youthful position and also lifts the skin and tissue under the lower eyelid. The goal is to perform both a cheek lift and lower eyelid lift together to recreate a smooth transition between the undereye area and the upper cheek. This can restore a more youthful and energetic appearance to the eyes and midface.
In many cases, a midface lift is combined with a traditional facelift, either at the same time or after. This can achieve a more youthful appearance for the face from the lower eyes to the neck. In some cases, patients finish this process by adding an upper eyelid and brow lift for a complete facial transformation.
If you have sagging bags under the eyes and flattened, sunken cheeks, a midface lift may be the solution to rejuvenate your appearance. To learn more, contact us at LM Medical NYC in Manhattan to schedule a consultation with Dr. Lesley Rabach, our experienced facial plastic surgeon.
