Blistering skin diseases can be painful and cause aesthetic issues with your skin. Two of the more common blistering skin diseases include pemphigus and pemphigoid groups of skin conditions. These diseases can affect a wide variety of individuals and areas of the body. Our dermatology team at LM Medical NYC offers advanced pemphigus and pemphigoid treatment at our clinic in Manhattan.

What is Pemphigus?

Pemphigus is a group of blistering skin diseases that can affect the skin, mouth, nails and moist tissue areas of the body. The most common form is pemphigus vulgaris, which can start with mouth or throat sores, but also spreads to the skin and other areas. Not only can pemphigus cause painful blisters and sores, patients may also experience fatigue, eye problems, light sensitivity and weakness. There is not a cure for pemphigus, but there are effective treatments to control this skin disease. Treatments can include corticosteroids, biologics, immunosuppressants and other medications.

What Is Pemphigoid Bullous?

Pemphigoid is a group of blistering skin diseases. One of the most common in this group is pemphigoid bullous, although it is still fairly rare. Bullous pemphigoid is an autoimmune skin disorder where the immune system attacks the skin and tissue. This disorder primarily affects those 60 years of age or older, causing large blisters that are prone to infection. Treatment can include corticosteroids and immunosuppressant medications.

Blistering skin diseases are often caused by autoimmune disorders. It is important to see an experienced dermatologist to ensure an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment for blistering skin disorders like pemphigus and pemphigoid bullous.
