Rhinoplasty Surgery
The nose is the central feature of the face, impacting the overall balance and aesthetics. While there is not one “perfect” nose, the ideal nose does not detract from the other features of the face. It should blend and match the size and shape of the face without drawing too much attention. Rhinoplasty surgery can help those unhappy with the shape or size of their nose achieve the “perfect” nose for their face.
At LM Medical NYC in Manhattan, our talented double board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Lesley Rabach, specializes in creating the perfect nose for her patients. Her extensive plastic surgery skill and experience, combined with her incredible artistic talent, are evident in the exquisite results she has created for her rhinoplasty patients. If you are seeking to change the shape or size of your nose and want a natural, balanced appearance, you can trust the expertise of Dr. Lesley for your rhinoplasty surgery.
Rhinoplasty FAQs
- What are the credentials of my surgeon?
Dr. Lesley is a world-renowned double board certified facial plastic surgeon, and an elite surgeon who specializes specifically in operating on the face and neck. She completed her internship and residency in head and neck surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital followed by an ABFPRS accredited fellowship in facial plastic surgery. - Where is surgery performed? How long is surgery?
Rhinoplasties can be performed either in an accredited operating room or in the hospital. We prefer to conduct all rhinoplasties in AAAA accredited operating rooms. Surgery typically lasts about two hours.
- What is the recovery process like?
Rhinoplasties are not typically a painful procedure, although patients may experience some mild discomfort during the healing process. Any pain or discomfort can be managed through pain medication, if needed. You will experience some bruising, swelling and your nose may be stuffy (as though you have a cold) for a few days. We give you medication to mitigate these symptoms during your healing process.
- What are some of the risks and potential complications?
After surgery, patients typically experience a degree of swelling and bruising around the nose. Splints are used to control the swelling. In addition, we typically make the following post-operative recommendations: utilize cold compresses, keep the head elevated for the first few days following the procedure, use salon sprays to reduce mucus buildup and take certain medications to mitigate swelling and discomfort.
- When should I expect to see the final results?
It will typically take up to one year to see the final results as the cartilage, skin and muscles evolve over this healing period. Once the swelling goes down in the first month or two, expect to see a vast improvement that will continue over time.
- When can I resume normal activity?
Most patients begin lighter exercise around two weeks after surgery.
- How is the surgery performed?
There are various types of nasal surgeries and techniques, and each patient is carefully evaluated in order to determine the best method for surgery. There are open and closed techniques with and without grafts. In an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made to separate the nasal skin from the underlying tissues, whereas in a closed rhinoplasty the incision is made inside the nose so that it is not visible. Through both techniques, underlying bone and cartilage are refined to meet the aesthetic for each individual patient. The various techniques are specially tailored for each patient, depending on the specific goals for that patient.
