What Are Sun Spots/ Brown Spots?
Sun spots, also known as age spots or liver spots, are flat, brown, or tan marks that appear on the skin, typically due to prolonged sun exposure. These spots are usually harmless and are a result of the skin producing excess melanin (pigment) as a protective response to UV radiation. While they’re most common in older adults, anyone who spends significant time in the sun can develop them. Sunspots typically appear on areas that have been exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, shoulders, and arms.
