Botox Injections
Few cosmetic treatments have been as widely used as Botox® and similar neuromodulator treatments. Botox was the first neuromodulator injection to be FDA-approved for cosmetic treatment. Originally it was approved for cosmetic use in diminishing brow or frown lines. Now, Botox injections are used for a wide variety of cosmetic treatments with excellent results. At LM Medical NYC, we offer Botox injections for wrinkles, lines, brow/lip lifts, neck bands and many other cosmetic treatments at our upscale clinics in Greenwich Village and the Upper East Side.
Botox (or other neuromodulators such as Dysport® and Jeuveau®) relax tense muscle tissue, thereby smoothing out the muscles of the face and neck. The neurotoxin ingredient in Botox blocks nerve receptors to minimize muscle contractions. This technique is especially powerful for smoothing forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet and furrows between the eyes, all of which can make a person look upset or angry even when he or she is not. Botox can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis, or excess sweating.
Botox Injections FAQs
- What is Botox?
Botox is a protein that relaxes muscle. Usually, it takes anywhere from 2-14 days for the wrinkles to relax and lasts between 2-4 months depending on individual variation, individual metabolism, how many units were used and the desired results.
- How do I prepare for my first treatment with Botox?
There is no preparation required for Botox.
- What is a typical treatment like?
We first discuss what you are hoping to achieve and then create a customized treatment plan. We wash the skin and then place Botox into your musculature.
- Does Botox prevent wrinkles?
Yes! Tiny amounts of Botox, sometime termed “baby Botox,” will prevent wrinkles from forming on your face in the long run.
- Will wrinkles worsen if I stop doing Botox?
No! Your muscles and skin will go back to how they were before Botox, although often you have a smoother appearance overall since Botox “retrains” your muscles to not make wrinkles.
- What is a typical treatment plan?
Patients typically receive a customized dose of Botox based on their treatment goal. We believe that receiving “baby Botox” before lines have formed make people look like the best version of themselves.
- Will I look frozen?
No! We specialize in facial aesthetics that are natural. Our goal is that our patients will look well rested but not “done.” You yourself will know you were treated with Botox; however, no one else will be able to identify your treatment. The number of Botox units you get depends on how much movement you have left over. We believe that using the smallest amount of Botox is the best way for you to look like a refreshed, better version of yourself without looking frozen and unnatural.
- If I start Botox, do I have to do it every 3-4 months?
Some patients do Botox consistently every 3-4 months, others wait longer. Everyone can do Botox, according to what works for them. Some patients love to get in before the holidays or a big event so that they are looking their best.
- Does Botox hurt?
Botox is actually surprisingly comfortable. We have tons of customized tricks to make it painless, and it takes only a few minutes (or less!) for a full treatment.
We inject Botox with a tiny needle, much like acupuncture. If you are particularly sensitive, we also have a barrage of tricks, including numbing cream, ice and vibrational techniques that mask the injections. It has been said that waxing hurts more than Botox treatment.
- What are Botox side effects?
The most common side effect of Botox is bruising; but for a complete list we recommend going to www.botoxcosmetic.com. Make sure to speak to us about any concern you may have.
- How can I avoid side effects?
Proper placement from an expert, do not massage area, no strenuous exercise, minimize fish oil/Advil/other blood thinning vitamins.
- How is Botox priced?
We believe the fairest way to price Botox is by the unit, that way you know exactly how many units you are getting and how much you are paying per unit. Botox is dose dependent, meaning that the more Botox units you have, the more relaxed the lines will look.
- When do I start to see results?
Patients will start to see results within one day post treatment with the full results in 7-14 days, and Botox lasts anywhere between 2-4 months.
- What do I do post treatment?
We recommend staying upright for three hours, no heavy exercise and no rubbing the treatment area. No deep tissue massages on your face post treatment. But that’s it.
